Gold sheen obsidian is volcanic glass with a dark body and a flash of gold. It forms when silica-rich lava cools so fast it stays glassy, while tiny inclusions—often magnetite or hematite—create the shimmer. Like quartz, it is made mostly of silicon dioxide (SiO2), but it never develops crystals.
