Polish Flint wrapped in copper on a cloth chain.
Striped flint, also called banded or Polish flint, is a rare and visually striking variety known for its dark and light bands, often resembling wood grain, smoke, or flowing water. Found only in a few parts of southeastern Poland, it has been prized since Neolithic times for tools, ceremonial objects, jewelry, and artisan crafts.
Its alternating bands formed in a shallow Jurassic sea over what is now southeastern Poland, recording subtle changes in silica deposition about 160 million years ago.
